Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite 2016 Releases So Far

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week’s topic is…top ten favorite 2016 releases so far!

I don’t know how you feel about this, but in my opinion 2016 has been full of some great releases!! In all honesty I’m way further behind in my 2016 releases than I thought I’d be at this stage, but there are just so many I wanted to pick up that it was incredibly easy to fall behind. That being said, I did get the chance to read quite a few so I’m going to share eight of my favorites and then I’m going to switch it up with the last couple and select two that I was highly anticipating, but fell short.

The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater

I’m anticipating that this will be on a lot of lists today and rightly so because IT WAS AMAZING! I loved the conclusion to this series and although it was sad to say goodbye to some of my absolute favorite characters, I was happy with how it all turned out.

The Problem with Forever by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I’m still working on my review for this one but on par with Jennifer’s other books, I really loved it! Maybe not as much as some of her series but for a standalone contemporary I thought it was really well done. Plus it had a lot of the things I loved about Jennifer’s books 😀

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

THIS BOOK. I’m actually not even finished with it yet, I have about 150 pages to go, but I couldn’t not put it on here because it is SPECTACULAR. I enjoyed ACOTAR, but this book is 203842983570918 times better. I just love it so much that I don’t want it to be over, hence me reading it at the pace of a snail. I know waiting for the next is going to be brutal. Seriously though, if you were feeling so-so about ACOTAR and you are a fan of Rhysand then you need to give this a shot!

The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner

Another amazing release. This book had all the feels and when I say all, I really mean all 🙂 It was just an overall incredible story that I’ve been recommending left and right.

Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys

Salt to the Sea definitely left me in tears but they were so well worth it. Gorgeous story based on a tragic historical event that doesn’t get nearly enough remembrance. Everyone should read this at least once!

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

I loved being back in the Shadowhunter world and although I thought, at times, it leaned a little too heavily on past characters, I really loved this overall!

Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard

I feel like the Red Queen series can be a bit of a hit or miss for people but I really enjoyed Red Queen and felt that Glass Sword was honestly better than the first. It just took the series to a whole new level that I really couldn’t get enough of. Plus that cover…

The Love That Split the World by Emily Henry

I didn’t love this book as much as I originally thought I would, due to what felt like a small little case of instalove, but it still earned a place in my favorites because the story was just so beautifully done.

Releases I found disappointing

A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro

I had high, high hopes for this book but unfortunately I found Charlotte to be WAY too similar to BBC’s Sherlock, to the point that I found it distracting. 🙁

Assassin’s Heart by Sarah Ahiers

Assassin’s are a topic that always draw me in but unfortunately me and this book just didn’t get along. Oh well, it happens!

What are some of you’re favorite 2016 releases so far? Any releases that you thought you’d love but just didn’t care for? Comments? Let me know down below! 😀

  1. Unfortunately I’ve seen a lot of people that have been disappointed by Assassin’s Heart so I’m probably going to give that one a pass. However, in general I must agree with you on 2016 being a great year for books and I’m struggling to keep track of them all haha. The Raven King <3 I can't not love that book but I'm still in that stage of denial where I can't admit to myself that it was the end of the series. Salt to the Sea was another hit for me and The Serpent King is next on my to read list so I can't wait to start that.

LOVED The Serpent King! I hope you enjoy it! I can’t believe The Raven Cycle is over either! I’m holding out hope that one day we’ll maybe see a short story or something (anything, haha!) since I really would like to know what happened to some characters down the road. Also loved Salt to the Sea! I have yet to read any of her other books yet but they’re one my out of control TBR haha!

  2. Assassin’s Heart also disappointed me :/ I just didn’t find it that interesting. The Problem With Forever has such a BEAUTIFUL cover!

I had the same problem. I found the whole thing to be rather slow and it just didn’t hold my interest like I thought it would. I love cover of The Problem With Forever! It’s so gorgeous!

  3. YES ACOMAF! I agree completely, I liked ACOTAR a lot too but ACOMAF just took it to whole other level of awesomeness! And Rhys has seriously become my favorite male book character ever. So much love for this book!
I also really loved Lady Midnight and Glass Sword and The Raven King is on my TBR (first need to finish the rest of the series)

YES!!! I love Rhys!!! It was awesome getting to know his character a ton more this book. I’m officially hooked 😀 I hope you enjoy The Raven King when you get to it! I really loved The Raven Cycle and thought the characters were fantastic!

  4. I’ve been recommending The Serpent King to everyone whether they like YA or not. I agree that there have been so many great releases and I feel like I’ve barely read any of them and the list just keep growing instead of shrinking.

I know!! I swear every month I have at least 3 or more new releases I add to my TBR. Actually I think June was the only month that I didn’t really add any new releases and I feel like I’m missing something haha! At least it gives me a little chance to catch up 😀

  5. The only one of these that I have read is The Raven King but I loved that one!

YES! The Raven King was awesome!!! I’m trying to figure out when I can reread the series already, haha!

  6. I think ACOMAF will my favourite read of 2016 since it was so good and that ending killed me. I was actually a bit disappointed with Lady Midnight – I didn’t fall in love with it the way I did other Cassandra Clare books, but I think it’s just me. Everyone else seemed to love it!

I keep hearing people talk about the end of ACOMAF and I am so nervous to get there! Especially because the next one doesn’t come out for a long while! I get what you’re saying about Lady Midnight. Out of the three series it was definitely my least favorite so far. I think what bugged me most was the constant mention and inclusion of the TMI and TID characters. I always feel shocked that I’m saying that, but I really think it could have carried itself and the constant mention of them almost felt like a crutch! Don’t get me wrong, I love those characters but I kind of wanted it to be it’s own story much like TID was. All that aside, I still really liked it though so maybe I’m being picky haha! But you’re not alone 🙂 It’ll be interesting to see how the second book is.

  7. The only one of these I’ve read is The Raven King, which destroyed me in the best way possible. The rest are all on my TBR though! I’m hoping to read them soon especially Salt to the Sea.

  8. ACOMAF and Glass Sword are on my list too! How utterly cool! They were such such brilliant books, I can’t wait for what they might bring next *looks around for broken heart pieces*

Lovely List! I should really start reading The Serpent King ASAP! I’ve heard nothing but great things!

Thanks! 😀 Haha! I know how you feel! After the ending of ACOMAF, I’m having series issues waiting for the next! It was just so amazing! Also The Serpent King is amazing! I hope you enjoy it when you read it! 😀
